The National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia proudly presents the final exhibition of The Year of Free Speech, Let’s Talk: Confronting What Divides Us. In Let’s Talk, NLM is creating an interactive space for visitors to learn about what divides and unites us. By engaging with AI interactives built in collaboration with TimeLooper, visitors will practice discussing current issues with people who think differently than they do. Let’s Talk will be on view in NLM’s 3rd Floor Galleries from May 16, 2025, through Monday, March 2, 2026.

Also featured in the exhibition is Jesters and Fools, a documentary short by filmmaker Rob Feld. Jesters and Fools uses the power of science and good, old-fashioned humor to demonstrate how media creates the false idea that America is ideologically fractured and beyond repair. Through the research of Duke University social scientist Chris Bail, and observations by acclaimed comedians, we learn how our perceptions of the national discourse have been twisted, and how the truth is far more complicated and hopeful than we are led to believe.

Are We Truly a Divided Nation? 

80% of Americans say we are, but Let’s Talk invites visitors to rethink assumptions, embrace nuance, and discover common ground. Rooted in the belief that free speech flourishes in a culture of both speaking and listening, this exhibition creates space for constructive conversations. Through immersive installations, interactive debates, and shared storytelling, visitors will explore not only what separates us but also the values and motivations that bring us together. While we may not agree on everything, we can develop a greater understanding and empathy for a diversity of perspectives, looking past censorship, identity politics, and the influence of technology and the internet.
