Drop-In Artist-led Workshop: From Zine to Screen!

June 24, 2023 11:00 am - 4:00 pm

From stone tablets to the printing press to TikTok, how we communicate has played an important role in sharing our beliefs and catalyzing movements. Join Data Nation featured artist Lane Timothy Speidel in this drop-in zine-making workshop. Short for “magazine,” zines are handmade, folded, or bound paper publications. Make your zine by cutting, collaging, writing, scanning, finding, and creating images, words, and textures. Add a poem, story, call to action or letter to a friend. Scan your zine in our print studio and add it to a “digital quilt,” showcasing the sense of community that forms when people create together.

Materials will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring photographs or other ephemera from home to personalize their zines. We’ll even scan them for you so you can hold on to those precious memories forever! Presented as part of Civic Season in partnership with The Carpenters’ Company.

The event is free with the price of admission.
