Programs & Learning Experiences
The National Liberty Museum offers a range of civics-based museum programs for students, designed to complement classroom learning and connect seamlessly with visits to other Old City Philadelphia sites. Groups visiting the Museum will have the option to choose one of the following programs:
The Forgotten Freedom: American Assembly Tour
Recommended for grades 7-12
COMING SOON! Available for bookings beginning March 9, 2026
This dynamic, inquiry-based tour invites students to examine the freedom of assembly, one of the most essential yet often overlooked First Amendment rights. Students explore how the right to peacefully assemble has evolved over time and reflect on how assembly shapes civic life today.
Tours feature The Forgotten Freedom: American Assembly at 250 exhibitions, facilitated discussions, and hands-on activities that encourage critical thinking and civic reflection. Rooted in civics education, this program pairs well with field trips to Independence Hall, the National Constitution Center, and other Old City landmarks.
Let’s Talk: The Tour
Recommended for grades 7-12
Available now through March 2026
This guided exhibition experience invites students to explore how conversation can bridge difference and foster connection. Through Let’s Talk: Confronting What Divides Us, students examine why we often perceive ourselves as more divided than we are and how those perceptions shape our interactions with one another.
Led by trained museum educators, students engage with interactive exhibition elements, facilitated discussions, and hands-on activities that build listening, empathy, and constructive conversation skills. Grounded in civic learning, this experience invites students to explore differing perspectives and practice meaningful dialogue in a supportive museum setting.
Educators are encouraged to prepare students using the Let’s Talk Educator Resource Guide, developed by our Education and Civic Learning team. An accompanying resource list offers additional tools from partners in the conversation and bridging field.
Self-Guided Museum Visits
Recommended for grades 4-12
Prefer to explore at your own pace? Self-guided school field trips allow educators to lead students through the museum using their own lesson plans while engaging with exhibitions focused on liberty, First Amendment freedoms, and civic values.
