Professional Development Workshop: Understanding and Supporting Anxious Students – 15 Act 48 hours*

March 4 @ 9:00 am - 3:30 pm

This workshop was last offered in May 2015
and is back again due to popular demand!

Anxiety persists for many students throughout the school year and can worsen as academic pressures become greater. A first grade boy clings to his parent at the start of the school day. A fourth grade girl constantly asks to use the restroom because she is compulsively washing her hands. A seventh grade boy still panics before tests and his grades are suffering. Anxiety is the most common mental health problem in childhood and adolescence, and the emotional and behavioral symptoms are usually present at school. This workshop examines the causes, symptoms, and treatments of childhood anxiety. Participants will learn applicable strategies and reasonable accommodations to support anxious students in the classroom. Additionally, participants will explore the Museum to complete a corresponding activity.

Recommended for educators, instructional assistants, counselors, school psychologists, administrators, and out-of-school time providers of students in grades K-8.

Facilitator
Catherine Mallam, M.S. is a School Counselor in the Harverford Township School District. She has over twenty-five years of experience working successfully with anxious students.
