NLM Celebrates: Wawa Welcome America Free Museum Day

Kick off Independence Week with our Free Museum Day as part of the city-wide Wawa Welcome America Festival. Join us for activities marking the Independence Day season and discover the power of using your voice in our engaging Year of Free Speech exhibitions. Ongoing activities include art-making workshops inspired by our exhibitions, interactive button making and a photo booth at our Creation Station, and the opportunity to ring our replica Liberty Bell.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

Creation Station  |  10 am – 5 pm

Use your artistic inspiration and take home your own piece of the Museum. Make a statement and design your own custom button inspired by our museum exhibitions or your own unique vision. Strike a pose and capture the memories with friends and family in our themed photo booth.

Let Freedom Ring  |  10 am – 5 pm

Make a donation in support of the Museum for the opportunity to let freedom ring by sounding our replica of the famous Liberty Bell.

Protect Your Books: Making Book Cover Bags with Micki Spiller  |  11 am – 1 pm & 2 pm – 4 pm

Join Word Powered exhibition artist Micki Spiller to construct and decorate your own book cover bags inspired by her “Banned Book Bandoliers.” Visitors can celebrate free speech by creating a book cover out of embroidery canvas with handles that double as a carrier. Customize your book cover and play with textiles and embroidery. Visitors of all ages are invited to drop-in and participate throughout the day. Materials are provided and participants are encouraged to bring their favorite book to cover.
