Turmoil in the Middle East , an FPRI event

February 12, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

This event is part of the FPRI* ongoing series Geopolitics with Granieri

Geopolitics with Granieri features a conversation – some might say an interrogation – with guest scholars on subjects in the news. Moderated by FPRI’s RON GRANIERI each session draws upon FPRI’s vast network of scholars and outside experts to elicit a broader understanding of the geographical, political, and historical context of current events. This uniquely interactive program offers real substance and emphasizes active audience participation, from both the audience in attendance and a live YouTube audience.
*Foreign Policy Research Institute

In this first session of Geopolitics with Granieri for 2019, we are pleased to introduce and feature a conversation with Dr. Aaron Stein, the new director of FPRI’s Middle East Program and a 2019 Templeton Fellow. Most recently, Stein was a senior fellow of the Atlantic Council in Washington DC, where he managed their Turkey-related research program. He was formerly a doctoral fellow at the Geneva Center for Security Policy (Switzerland), an Associate Fellow of the Royal United Services Institute (London), and Nonproliferation Program Manager at the Center for Economics and Foreign Policy Studies (Istanbul).

Aaron will discuss the current turmoil in the Middle East, particularly the nexus of issues involving Turkey, Syria, Iraq, and Russia and the controversy over the much-heralded US withdrawal from Syria.

Registration begins at 6:15 pm, with the program to follow from 6:30 – 7:30 pm.

Reservations are required. RSVP to Jessica Taylor at jtaylor@fpri.org
