During Pride Month 2017, we are celebrating heroes in the LGBTQ+ community through highlighted exhibits and special events all month long. When you visit NLM, you’ll learn the stories of those who pushed for progress while helping to support programming that preserves freedom and equality for generations to come.
Pride Month Events & Exhibits:
Transparency: An LGBTQ+ Glass Art Exhibit
On display from June 2 – August 6
The National Liberty Museum hosts the nation’s first museum exhibit of studio glass works produced exclusively by artists of the LGBTQ+ community. This is a celebration of identity and freedom that will showcase the diverse subjects, methods, and styles explored by these glass artists.
Opening Reception of Transparency
Friday, June 9 from 5:30-9:00pm
NLM is proud to partner with the Human Rights Campaign for the Opening Reception of Transparency. Meet some of the artists, view the gallery, enjoy free refreshments, and a glass art raffle. Representatives from the HRC will be in attendance to discuss their organization and mission. The Opening Reception is free, but a $10 donation is suggested to support NLM’s public programming. Indie Lens FREE film screening : Real Boy by Shaleece Haas
Thursday, June 8
“Real Boy ” by Shaleece Haas is the coming-of-age story of Bennett Wallace Gwizdalski, a charismatic 19-year-old with dreams of musical stardom. The film follows Bennett through the first two years of his gender transition from female to male as he grapples with newfound sobriety, struggles to repair a strained relationship with his mother, and seeks support and mentorship from his musical hero, the transgender folk singer Joe Stevens. Pride at Work: Celebrating LGBTQ+ Heroes
All month long!
Celebrate some of the activists and pioneers of the LGBTQ+ community who fought for equality and showed the world what it meant to #LiveLikeAHero. You’ll learn about the work of heroes like Harvey Milk, Bayard Rustin, Dan Savage, Laverne Cox, Sally Ride, and many more. On display at NLM all month long as part of the Voyage to Liberty gallery.
