Read & Romp Summer Program

August 19 @ 10:30 am - 11:30 am

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every 2 weeks that begins at 10:30am on Monday, repeating until August 19, 2019

Join us with your little learner, ages 2-6, for an exciting hour of storytelling, interactive games, and creative crafts in the Museum’s galleries. Read & Romps will be held every other Monday throughout the summer from 10:30-11:30am.  Please see the schedule below.

Each week we will explore a different theme found in the Museum, such as acceptance, respect, kindness, and more. Snacks & Museum admission are included.

Monday, June 10:
Nine Little Jellybeans Learn to Get Along
This week we’re learning all about friendship through Jelly beans! Join our museum educators as we read and explore the book Nine Little jelly beans…who learn to get along by Willie Wood. Explore our galleries, socialize, and play interactive jelly bean themed games. We’ll be learning a powerful lesson on friendship, and having a sweet time too!

Monday, June 24:
What Do You Do With an Idea?
This week, join our museum educators as we read Kobi Yamada’s award-winning book, What Do You Do With an Idea? and explore all the wonderful possibilities of your imagination!  Create your very own “Idea Egg!”, explore some egg-cellent ideas in our galleries, and activate your inner artist with a fun, crafty activity.

Monday, July 8:
Red: A Crayon’s Story
This week, join our museum educators as we read Red: A Crayons story by Michael Hall. This powerful children’s book is all about identity and how we fit in. Red has a bright red label, but he is, in fact, a blue crayon. Discovering his identity as a blue crayon, Red finds what makes him unique! We’ll explore what makes us all unique in our exhibits and create a fun craft for groups to take home!

Monday, July 22:
One
We will be continuing our Read and Romp series with a reading of Kathryn Otoshi’s exciting book, One.  This book illustrates the power one person can have, and shows kids just how much their actions make a difference! Join our educators as we have an interactive reading, shake out the sillies, and finish the hour with a few wild science experiments!

Monday, August 5:
Stone Soup

Warm up this week with a reading of the timeless tale, Stone Soup, retold by Heather Forest. Together, we will learn about the importance of sharing, and being kind to everyone you meet! Come play some interactive games, and get ready to help in the creative kitchen as we make our very own “Stone” Soup.

Monday, August 19:
I Like Myself
Self-love and care is important at any age! This week, we’ll enjoy self-care activities that are fun and relaxing for all. We’ll be reading the book I Like Myself by Karen Beaumont focusing on self-love and talking about how it’s important to take care of yourself. We’ll also be creating face masks and lip scrubs to try out and take home; it’s a spa day at the museum!
