Read and Romp

Join us with your little learner, ages 2-6, for Read & Romp, an exciting hour of imaginative storytelling, interactive games, and creative crafts in the Museum’s galleries. Read & Romps are held from 10:30-11:30am. Please see the schedule below.
Each week we explore a different theme found in the Museum, such as acceptance, respect, kindness, and more. Snacks and Museum admission are included.
Saturday, February 16:
One by Kathryn Otoshi
In this book different colors come to life and each one has its own personality. The story illustrates the power that one person (or color!) can have and shows the impact of a single action. Join our Museum Educators for this interactive reading followed by exciting, colorful science experiments that reflect themes from the story
Monday, February 25 and Saturday, March 2:
Stone Soup by Heather Forest
Warm up this week with a reading of the timeless tale, Stone Soup, retold by Heather Forest. Together, we will learn about the importance of sharing, and being kind to everyone you meet! Come play some interactive games, and get ready to help in the creative kitchen as we make our very own “Stone” Soup.
Monday, March 11 and Saturday, March 16:
Duck & Goose by Tad Hills
Join us on a sandy adventure! This week, we’ll be reading best-selling author, Tad Hills’ whimsical book, Duck & Goose Go to the Beach! Its summer here, and we’ll play like Duck and Goose with our very own Beach Boogie. We will even toss around some beach balls, and put our memories to the test with a beach-themed matching game.
Monday, March 25 and Saturday, March 30:
How do Dinosaurs Say I’m mad? by Jane Yolen and Mark Teague
This week, we’re dancing with dinos! Our educators will be reading the exciting book How do Dinosaurs say I’m mad? by Jane Yolen and Mark Teague. We will be learning all about how to express our anger in healthy ways …for example DANCE! We’ll be stomping out our feelings in a roaring romp throughout the museum!

Not Norman: A Goldfish Story by Kelly Bennett
Have you ever had something not go quite your way? This week our story is all about a boy who didn’t quite get what he wanted when his parents gave him…a fish named Norman! Our educators are teaching about appreciation with this funny children’s book, Not Norman by Kelly Bennett. Kids will walk away with a pet-themed craft too!
Monday, April 22:
Giraffes Can’t Dance by Giles Andreae
Bring your best moves as we head to the jungle for a wild Jungle Dance! We’ll be groovin’ as we read Giraffes Can’t Dance by Giles Andreae. This book encourages children to keep on dancing, no matter what other people say. Discover your inner dancer as we practice all kinds of dances and explore how unique we all are!

What do you do with a Chance? by Kobi Yamada
Don’t let the fear of failure stop you from taking chances! Get inspired with our reading of Kobi Yamada’s What Do You Do with a Chance? We’re going to harness our courage with high-flying origami art, and overcome challenges with an obstacle course!

I Like Myself! by Karen Beaumont
Self-love and care is important at any age! This week, we’ll enjoy self-care activities that are fun and relaxing for all. We’ll be reading the book I Like Myself by Karen Beaumont focusing on self-love and talking about how it’s important to take care of yourself. We’ll also be creating face masks and lip scrubs to try out and take home; it’s a spa day at the museum!
