The Young Heroes at Masterman chose a unique and timely social issue, COVID-19’s effects on animals. They began the Action Phase by choosing animal abandonment as their Social Issue and engaging in rigorous research. Once schools closed, students decided that they would like to focus on COVID-19’s effects on animals rather than just animal abandonment. They took on this Social Issue head on by creating an awareness campaign through a website that hosts important information, a PSA, a petition, and posters/images. They even developed a communications team to contact local news outlets, as well as created a social media presence to spread the word and educate more people about their Social Issue!
