Schedule a Field Trip

Join a National Liberty Museum Educator as they bring liberty to life in engaging tours through the Museum’s permanent and changing exhibitions. Our field trip programs are designed and recommended for students in grades 4-12 and last approximately 1 hour. All field trip programs and materials are aligned with national and state education standards and reflect cross-curricular learning in English Language Arts, Literacy, Social Studies, and Civics and Government.
PROGRAMS

Groups visiting the Museum have the option to choose one of the following programs:

What Is Liberty? (General Museum Tour)

Recommended for grades 4-12, available for interactive virtual experiences

In this introductory tour experience, students explore the meaning of liberty as they visit the Museum’s core galleries and current exhibitions. Through multimedia presentations, exhibit discovery, interactive activities, and meaningful discussion, students will learn about symbols of liberty throughout history, be introduced to people from around the world who did extraordinary things in the name of liberty, and explore compelling artistic expressions of liberty. This tour program provides a comprehensive introduction to the concept of liberty, its philosophical and historical foundations, and establishes a solid starting point for further investigation and analysis in the classroom.

Project Liberty: A Field Trip Challenge (Featured Exhibition Experience)

Recommended for grades 7-12

Students will take a deep dive into our newest exhibition Project Liberty: A Design Challenge and participate in engaging interactives that apply design thinking to real-world issues, both big and small, that are meaningful and relevant to their lives. Students will be introduced to design thinking as a problem-solving process through games, case studies, and hands-on activities, then collaborate to generate solutions to major social issues such as food insecurity, gun violence, and homelessness. This program provides a foundation of skills that prepares students for project-based learning and further civic action, problem solving, and constructive dialogue.

Project Liberty: A Field Trip Challenge features the Museum’s Flame of Liberty, replica Liberty Bell, and Project Liberty: A Design Challenge exhibition. Groups booking this program will have the option to self-guide through the rest of the galleries during museum operating hours.

BOOKING INFORMATION

The Museum will be closed from April 9-17, in preparation for our summer exhibition opening on May 10. From April 18-May 9, schools are welcome to book Project Liberty: A Field Trip Challenge while our summer exhibition is being installed.

Beginning May 10, the What Is Liberty? General Museum Tour will feature artwork and experiences in the summer exhibition, a curated selection of sculpture and large-scale multi-media installations by seven nationally acclaimed artists. This exhibition, covering three floors of the Museum’s gallery spaces, explores the shared quest for freedom, self-determination, justice, and belonging that drives the ongoing American experiment.

Please note: Some artworks in the summer exhibition touch on themes related to gun violence, migration and immigration, and topics that may be sensitive to your students. For more information or to discuss how we can accommodate your students’ needs, please contact us at tours@libertymuseum.org.

All field trips must be booked at least 2 weeks in advance. To ensure the best experience for your group, visits are limited to 75 people per hour for guided tours. If your group is larger, you may be asked to split between multiple reservation times.
