The National Liberty Museum’s Young Heroes Outreach Program (YHOP) ignites each student’s potential to make an impact in their school, community, and the world. YHOP empowers students to identify and investigate social issues, and take an active role in implementing civic projects.
The Young Heroes Outreach Program is a yearlong initiative for students in grades 4-8. Our curriculum is written with suggested differentiated activities to serve every participating student. In addition, our YHOP Educators work collaboratively with participating faculty advisors to make each lesson successful for every class.
Participating faculty advisors will be responsible for facilitating nine 45 minute long lessons in collaboration with a Museum Educator. These lessons can be taught once a week or twice a week in the fall semester, depending on the preference of the faculty advisor and their class schedule. Once the lessons have been completed, the faculty advisor is responsible for supporting the students in the planning and implementation of their Community Action Project throughout the spring semester. Faculty advisors must attend a training at the beginning of the school year and will have opportunities to continue their learning.
Thanks to the contributions of many generous corporations, foundations, and individuals who sponsor the Young Heroes Outreach Program, we are able to provide YHOP to Philadelphia-area public, charter, and parochial schools at no charge.
Each participating faculty advisor team will receive an honorarium upon completion of each phase of the program.
Yes! Our program kicks-off with an all expenses paid trip to the National Liberty Museum for a 90 minute tour led by our Museum Educators.
