HokansonDix Glass - Avocado Purse
Bengt Hokanson and Trefny Dix have been working together since 1996. Bengt studied anthropology and glass blowing at Tulane University from 1987-93. He has been working in glass for more than 20 years, with stops at Pilchuck Glass School, The Sudio at Corning, Studio Inferno in New Orleans, and Urban Glass in Brooklyn, New York. Trefny received a B.F.A. in sculpture at Indiana University and learned glass casting at Studio Inferno in New Orleans, LA. She has been working in glass for 16 years. In 2000 they began a collaborative body of blown glass vessels. They were inspired to create a body of work that explored abstract color and texture patterning on sculptural glass forms, creating a series of work where large blocks of color and layers of pattern flowed across the surface of the glass. Bengt and Trefny create their work by using a combination of traditional Italian and Swedish glass blowing techniques as well as many experimental techniques that they have devised in their studio. Although much of the work is created as a series of groups, each piece is treated as a unique abstract painting. Avocado Purse, blown glass $275
