Dale Chihuly - Cobalt Blue Basket

Dale Chihuly is considered the single most important contemporary artist working in glass today. It was through his own personal vision that he has been responsible for transforming the scope and reputation of blown glass as medium for fine art. He received his MFA in sculpture from the Rhode Island School of Design, his MS in sculpture from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and his BA in interior design from the University of Washington in Seattle. The recipient of a voluminous number of awards and citations including a Fulbright and NEA Fellowship, Chihuly was honored as the first National Living Treasure of the United States in 1992. He is famous for his use of resplendent colors and fantastic shapes and over the last decade, his projects have proliferated in galleries, museums and site-specific installations. A founder of the renowned institution, The Pilchuck Glass School, Chihuly has revolutionized the studio glass movement, in addition to paving the way of the most prolific and creative glass progression in the world.
