Local police, firefighters and correctional officers throughout the Delaware Valley receive the National Liberty Museum’s Annual Police and Firefighters Heroes Awards sponsored by Reedman-Toll Auto World, the PECO sponsored Volunteer Award and the new Hero Dog Award sponsored by Kathleen Knapp Holt. The awards are designed to honor living police, firefighters and correctional officers who have shown outstanding courage in the line of duty. Actions recognized include combat with armed and dangerous adversaries, car chases, rescues from burning buildings, intervention in school violence and other heroic acts. Nominations are received directly from police and firefighter units in Philadelphia and surrounding counties. Presentations are made at a ceremony at the Museum attended by dignitaries, community leaders and many courageous public servants and their families.
