Glass Art & Auction

The National Liberty Museum has hosted its spectacular Glass Weekend & Auction every year since our Museum opened in 2000. This event is a major fundraiser for our Museum, drawing support from glass art collectors and artists who understand and appreciate our Museum's mission of using contemporary glass art to represent the fragility of liberty.

Held on Thursday, October 13 – Sunday, October 16, our 2011 Glass Weekend & Auction was a huge success. Weekend guests enjoyed a full itinerary of fun and exciting activities including an opening night party at the beautiful condominium home of Suzanne & Norman Cohn, an inspiring Tribute Dinner honoring collectors Franz Rabauer & Brian Daggett and artist Toots Zynsky, visits to several private collections and to the Taylor Backes Studio, a Glass Film Festival, and tours of two local exhibitions, the Zaha Hadid: Form in Motion Exhibit at the Philadelphia Art Museum's Perelman Building and the Photographic Works on Glass by Martha Madigan at the Wells Fargo Sports Arena.

The highlight of the weekend was our Glass Auction held at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown on Saturday evening, October 15. Over 400 guests joined us as we celebrated the "Colors of Life," with bidding on 300 exquisite works of art and a 5-course dinner in a colorfully adorned ballroom. Special thanks go to artist Chris Lydon for this year's sponsors' gifts, the Great Bird of Happiness. We would also like to acknowledge our Diamond Sponsor, Brian Daggett & Franz Rabauer and our Platinum Sponsors, Doug & Gail Tozour and US Airways.  See below for a complete list of generous Table Sponsors at the 2011 Glass Auction.  Also, be sure to click on the image to the right to see a gallery of photos from the weekend and auction.
